Before creating your PowerPoint:
You have already submitted your choice of movie to me and I should have approved it.
You picked your movie (one that we have seen in class or one that is on the list of movies for you to have watched independently. You should have a copy of that movie or access to it via a streaming service so that you can watch it a few times, pause, rewind, etc so that you may take notes. Analysis – This is an objective presentation with your own original observations.
-Watch the film with an analytical mind
LIST YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES / OR MOVIES YOU WANT TO EXPLORE (from the ones you watched/ will watch during this semester)
Gone With The WIND
16 Candles
Pretty In Pink PICK THREE MOVIES YOU FEEL THE STRONGEST ABOUT FROM YOUR LIST
MOVIE 1 – Gone With The Wind
GENRE? – Romance History, Drama
WHY? WHAT ELEMENTS INTEREST YOU? –
I love history and all though I do not believe in the way some people were treated in that time I love how simple the life style was. How men were respectful and how women where the fighting the same war at home and behind the scenes. MOVIE 2- 16 Candles
GENRE? -Teen romance comedy WHY? WHAT ELEMENTS INTEREST YOU? – So, with this movie and along with the my 3rd choice it filmed in the 1980’s. the time of Gen X. My generation when we had to be home when the streetlights went on, no cell phones or social media. When hanging out at a friend’s house or going to the park was the thing to do. The movies are still iconic, and both my daughters watch them when the are easy to relate to no matter the generation.
MOVIE 3 – Pretty in Pink GENRE? – Teen Romance comedy
WHY? WHAT ELEMENTS INTEREST YOU? – So with the this movie and along with the my 2nd choice it filmed in the 1980’s .the time of Gen X. My generation when we had to be home when the streetlights went on, no cell phones or social media. When hanging out at a friend’s house or going to the park was the thing to do. OUT OF THE 3, PICK 2 MOVIES THAT DIVE DEEPER INTO THEME & MEANING, AS WELL AS LOOK AT THE ASPECTS OF CINEMATOGRAPHY. WHICH MOVIE OF YOUR TOP 3 IS THE BEST FOR AN ANALYSIS?
MOVIE 1: Gone With the Wind MOVIE 2: 16 Candles
Going off the cinematography and music to capture the moments the director wants the audience to feel I am going to have to pick Gone With the Wind. -Consider your impression of the movie
-Try to interpret the movie’s message in your own way
-Analyze and explain the elements of cinematic structure in your chosen film: Narrative & Genre, Cinematography, Mise-en-scène, Camera Work (lightning, angles, etc) Editing, Sound, Acting/Casting,
-Base your arguments on these elements
-Present and discuss conflicting opinions about the movie if there are any
-Offer proof of your statements (quotes from the movie, citations, specific scenes, etc)
To help you, you may address some of the questions. If you get stuck, ask yourself who, what, where, when, why, and how.
What is the film’s goal
How well has the goal been accomplished?
What are the primary themes in the movie?
How do these themes contribute to the movie’s meaning?
What issues does the movie raise?
What does it make you think about?
Aspects that should be considered when analyzing a film:
What is shown in the movie? What is left out?
Why was it shown that way?
How is the main message conveyed or shown
