Module 13: Capstone Assignment
Purpose
The Capstone Assignment serves as an indirect measurement of End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes (EPSLOs). EPSLOs are specific, measurable goals that a nursing program expects its students to achieve by the time they complete their education. These outcomes are aligned with the competencies required for safe, effective nursing practice and are based on national standards. Our program standards encompass a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviors that reflect the essential elements of nursing practice.
Behind the scenes faculty works to directly measure your EPSLOs with the use of rubrics and data collection during your time in the program, but this is your measurement that you feel that you have met the goals that faculty has set for you. Refer to the Course Structure and Alignment page for detailed information regarding objectives alignment to materials, activities and assessments.
Instructions
The Capstone Assignment is a culminating academic and intellectual experience in the Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program. This project requires students to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained throughout their BSN education. This work will be an indirect measurement that you have met all of the End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes (EPSLOs) prior to graduating the program.
Please be sure to address each of the following in your work:
EPSLO 1. Integrate knowledge from nursing and general education into the practice of professional nursing. (HINT: This should have been met in Professional Roles, Health Assessment, and/or Leadership).
EPSLO 2. Incorporate contemporary concepts of professional nursing practice within the interprofessional healthcare community to promote social determinants of health. (HINT: This should have been met in your final Community Health paper).
EPSLO 3. Apply transcultural principles and patient-centered care to professional nursing practice. (HINT: This should have been met in your final Multicultural paper).
EPSLO 4. Analyze current and changing information technology and organizational systems to promote a caring, safe practice environment. (HINT: This should have been met with your final paper for Informatics).
EPSLO 5. Evaluate current evidence-based practice within the framework of healthcare. (HINT: This should have been met in your Research final paper).
EPSLO 6. Apply leadership knowledge, skills, and attitudes that support healthcare policies promoting safe, quality nursing care within healthcare systems. (HINT: You should have met this with your final Leadership paper).
This Capstone Assignment essentially should just be a written work by the student explaining how they feel they met each End-of-Program Student Learning Outcome with evidence (using the above “hintsâ€) in order to show that prior to graduating, you have met all the goals Florida SouthWestern State College BSN Faculty have set. You should include the following: a title page, an introduction, one short paragraph (4-5 sentences) for each EPSLO, and a conclusion. No references are required. course Learning Objectives (CLOs)
Course Learning Objectives describe what you will learn about and be able to do by the end of the course. You will achieve the CLOs by successfully engaging with the course materials, and completing all of the required activities and assessments in the course.
At the conclusion of the course, learners will be able to:
CLO 1. Demonstrate how organizational systems impact nursing practice.
CLO 2. Apply factors that support a culture of safety and caring.
CLO 3. Analyze quality improvement, policies, procedures, and cost-effectiveness to enhance nursing practice.
CLO 4. Use inter and intra-professional communication and collaborative skills to deliver evidence-based patient-centered care.
CLO 5. Analyze healthcare policy, finance, reimbursement, and regulatory environments including local, state, and/or national healthcare trends.
CLO 6. Apply leadership concepts, skills, inter & intra-professional communication, and decision making in the provision of nursing care, and healthcare team coordination in a variety of settings.
