The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 as an independent, international scientific body whose brief it was to combine data on climate change and to present to the world a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. Since then, it has produced six major assessment reports (1990, 1995, 2001, 2007, 2014, 2022) detailing climate data and providing policy suggestions from thousands of scientists across the globe. These have resulted in numerous international climate talks and resulting conventions of varying effectiveness, including the Rio Convention, the Kyoto Protocols, the Doha Round, and, most recently, COP21/The Paris Agreement. To begin, we will read one of the four Summaries for Policy Makers in the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) highlighting the impacts of climate change, our ability to adapt to the consequences of climate change, and our global. While you are reading, take note of the key challenges stated with high levels of confidence and note which parts of the globe will be most affected by certain types of events. These will be important both in this assignment and further on in this module.

How has the United States’ withdrawal and then reentry into the Paris Agreement impacted environmental security in the United States?
How could lesser developed countries (LDCs) be impacted by the policy changes in the US?
