W7L2: Hypothesis and Justification
Hypothesis:
it was said that the Whites would approve the use of force against a citizen attempting to escape from police custody than the Blacks or any other colored persons.
Justification:
It proposes knowledge from past studies on how Blacks’ perceptions of policing are different from those of Whites. White Americans are more supportive of police officers’s use of force in crime and punishment scenarios than blacks, as they are less likely to be victims of police brutality (Zare, 2024). Black Americans and other ethnic minorities experience a different form of police interaction, which is negative, leading to low approval of aggressive cop conduct such as the application of force on escapees (Dunbar et al., 2024). Based on such patterns, it will be expected and hypothesized that race plays a huge role in respondents’ perception and approval ratings on police actions, with White respondents approving the actions more.
