McGuire Text:
I would like you to consider the chronology of the text, the examples, and the situations
presented by the author. What did you learn? Was any of the information presented by
McGuire taught in your primary education classes (high school)? If not, why not? Tell me
about Rosa Parks, Betty Jean Owens, Claudette Colvin, and the other women who were so
essential to the Civil Rights Movement. Why don’t we learn about them more? What was
your thought processes during the readings? What was most shocking or surprising?
Next, I want you to juxtapose those examples presented in the text against current society.
How have things changed? Have they changed? How have things remained the same? Are
there comparisons between the timeframe of the text and current society? Are there
comparisons to be made with regards to minority populations in the current US? I would also
like you to include a consideration of what shocked you the most while reading this text. This
reflection is due to me by Sunday, October 6, 2024, by 11:59PM.
