In this assignment, students will research and develop a business presentation to regulators about fintech security and regulation (regtech) in the country chosen from the list given and the selected technology described below.
Select one of the following technologies:
Cryptocurrencies and ICOs, which you may find exciting. There’s a lot of activity in this area as well as a lot of worry for regulators about what should be done and different approaches in different markets.
Virtual banking, branchless banks, banks and apps, non-bank banks, and other types of virtual banking. Peer-to-peer lending; you can talk about business-to-business lending, personal lending, loans online, non-bank lending, non-bank branches, and non-bank lending. Or you can focus on investing in loans to individuals or groups of individuals, borrowing for your business, or personal online peer-to-peer lending in general.
Non-bank payment systems include Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Alipay, WePay in China, and Tencent. These virtual payment systems could include game cards, things like Octopus for the subway in Hong Kong, and other payments using an Octopus card. Payment systems are not cryptos; these are virtual currencies that include stored value cards or other forms of virtual payment systems. Using reliable sources from the Internet, research what is happening in the US and one other country for the application you chose from the four technologies above. What is going on, what are other governments doing, and how are global regulators approaching this?
